Tips on How to Make Moving Easier
Some of us
may have been there or experienced it – moving is a stressful thing to do
especially when we come unprepared. But there is no reason to dread the
experience, as long as we know what to do and how to do it, then moving will be
such a less painful undertaking. Here are some tips that you can do to help you
when moving.
We have
categorized the moving process into 3, from the planning up to execution in
order to walk you through the process and make moving such a breeze:
First Steps
Document all your cords
Sounds simple, right? If you are not such a technical person, then this could be an addition to the stress of moving. It is easy to detach all cords from how it is setup – but once you have to reinstall them, it would be quite confusing to some. The best way to go about it is to document or take photos on how your equipment is setup – such as your television, sound equipment, computer equipment and modems. This way it will be easier to set them up again once you have moved to the new place.Update your address
Calling each and every utility companies,
financial institutions and such just to update them with your new mailing
address could also be a tedious task and
takes a lot of time. But as long as you
plan ahead, then it will be such a breeze. There are also services which you
can use in order to streamline your change of address process. This way it will
help you to save time and money.
Create a pet plan
If you have a pet, you should be able to
create a pet plan when moving as the process can also be stressful to them. As
a pet owner, consider to leave them with a friend or a boarder until the move
is complete. If it is not possible, make sure to plan ahead by keeping at least
one week’s worth of food and medication in cases of emergency. Prepare a first
aid kit and find a new veterinary clinic and emergency hospital.
Schedule touch-up paint jobs
This is most useful especially when you are
a renter – check to see if there is a need for a touch-up paint job before
moving out. If that is the case, schedule a painter before the move.
Recruit some help
An extra hand is always useful especially
in this kind of situation, make sure that you repay your family and friends for
their help in some way.
Packing
Plan a first night in the new house box
This has been such a mistake for some people
who have had the experience of moving out, this is to dig through each and
every box after the moving day. To ease out the burden, designate a box for
your toiletries, medications, personal hygiene and change of clothes so that
they are easier to find.
Your suitcases are your friends
Large suitcases can be of a great use as an easily transportable storage. You can fill them up with clothes, towels and other lightweight items.Be mindful of important documents
Important documents such as passport, birth
certificate are easy-to-lose documents. Make sure that you make a folder with
anything important and carry it with you to ensure that these items won’t get
lost during the moving process.
Unpacking
Strategize your layout
Make the moving day as smooth as possible
by putting labels for movers so that they won’t put it in the wrong room. Saves
energy, time and money!
Save all receipts
Moving expenses are deductible from federal
income taxes so make sure that you keep all your receipts.
There we
have it – couple of simple yet effective tips to help you out before, during and
after moving. Moving doesn’t have to be such a “hellish” experience, instead it
should create excitement since you will be having a great new home feature
which your current home doesn’t have; it should create a feel of a new beginning
since you will be moving in a new home, new environment and new neighborhood.
