Etiquette is a code of behavior that a person should act according to the expectation for social behavior based on society or group. A person should be wary on how they should act in certain circumstances. Etiquette should be observed everywhere and it also applies when buying a home. Here is a list of the 7 etiquette every homebuyer should know:


Get pre-approved for a home loan

This is a no-brainer. It would be proper to get yourself pre-approved for a mortgage prior to scouting for a home. This would also be convenient for both parties – as a homebuyer, you will be able to identify and know which home fits right into your budget or know if it is something that you can afford. As a home seller, it would be time well spent if they know that the interested buyer is someone who can be able to afford the home.

Don’t show up late

Golden rule for business is that you should always be punctual. You should respect the time of the seller as well as the agent because they have made time to attend to your business. If you are running late, make sure that you call to inform them and it is not advisable to make any last minute changes.

Remove your shoes

If you are okay to have your shoes on at home, then do not think that it is also acceptable to others. When entering someone else’s home, it is best to ask if you should remove your shoes.

Don’t bring an entourage

It is unnecessary to bring an entourage. You are checking out a home and not going on a field trip and visiting a museum. This is also applicable with bringing your children. Having them around will lose your focus on the features of the home and a wasted visit. It also poses a huge risk to have them wander around the house.

Ask permission before taking photos

Photos or videos are great so that you will have something that you can remember even the littlest of details of the home. However, you should ask first as they might be any privacy concerns within the home.

Don’t linger too long
When visiting a home taking time between 15 to 30 minutes would be an ideal duration to spend for the first showing since you are most likely to return for another showing. The typical amount of time is ample enough to see all the features of a home.

Avoid excessive multiple visits

How many visits are allowed for a home showing? Advisable is up to a maximum of three visits, if you are going for more than the regular 3 visits then you should be someone who is serious about buying the home. Sellers would be far too worried and would be a waste of their time especially if you return for a couple more visits and never be heard from again.

Make sure that you are aware of these unwritten etiquettes when visiting a home for showing. You might be able to win the bid and get the home you are dreaming about.
