Hot Housing Trends of 2015

Trends usually mean the next big thing and it ranges from food to gadgets and latest technologies to house designs. So the process is, the “in” thing captivates the audience and consumers, goes mainstream and popular, gains momentum and sometimes remain as classics. The same process applies in real estate trends. While this may seem to attract or entice buyers but we will never know how the prediction will be. Here are a couple of hot housing trends for this year.

Coral shades – thinking about palettes, Sherwin-Williams has announced that 2015’s color of the year is Coral Reef (#6606). It has a youthful vibe, yet promotes sophistication. The color can be used to provide accent on walls or can be used outside.

Open floor-plan – this has been a traditional layout for condo buildings because of open spaces and for flexibility. Somehow this has been the hot trend for young demographics.

Free standing tubs – freestanding tubs are becoming quite popular and compliment other bathroom trends such as open wall niches and single wash basins since two people rarely use the room at the same time.

Quartzite – quartzite is a contender of granite. Its greatest point is that it is indestructible and resembles marble without being stained easily.

Porcelain floors – the reason why it is becoming a trend is because it is less expensive and great for high traffic areas such as hallways and areas exposed to moisture. They are available in planks or small tiles. Imitation porcelain wears better than the real thing.

Latest technologies – gone are the days where web-controlled security cameras and motion sensor for pets’ prices are high up the ceiling, nowadays newer models are powered by batteries and easy to install and operate rather than hiring an electrician to rewire the entire house for these types of practicalities.

Multiple Master Suites – multiple master suites can actually benefit multiple generations. This can be used for grown children and aging parents to move in for long or short term stays. Two master bedroom suites each with its own adjoining bathroom can also be used for out-of-town guests.

Fireplaces and fire pits – this classic design has come a long way through the years. Modernization has perfected so there has been newer versions of fireplaces that are out in the market – whether faux or real. Who wouldn’t want flame during the cold season?

Wellness systems – Environmental and health concerns are now being addressed by designing houses which works well not just for homeowners but is also good for the environment. This includes lighting systems that utilizes solar energy or sunshine as well as swimming pools that do not use chlorine and salt by adding a second adjacent pool with plants and gravel that cleans water.

Storage – this is not just a simple storage, but more home owners want a place for everything. This means that some are actually willing to use up some of the space for the second or third bedroom to have more room for a walk-in closet to their master bedroom.

Keyless Entry – there’s no need to worry about where you have placed your keys because there are houses built with biometric fingerprint door locks. Some also allows you to track who entered and when with this high technology facility.

Water Conservation – with the concern of drought, home owners can now purchase rainwater harvesting tanks which allows to collect rainwater and use it for household purposes. There are also graywater systems, weather- controlled watering stations, plants which are tolerant to plants and no or low mow grasses.

Quality bedrooms – there is no place to get better sleep but in the bedroom. This is because people are now realizing that getting enough sleep will improve alertness, mood and productivity. Investing on luxury beddings, a new mattress, comfortable pillows and calming scents are not such a bad idea after all.

While the latest trends deemed to be so appealing and the idea of having these facilities seems fun, best to remind yourself as a homebuyer what is in perspective. Updating or getting in on the latest trends should be in placed with your needs especially your budget. Like what was mentioned earlier, trends do come and go.
